Lied Lodge - Interiors
An incredible emphasis was placed on the interiors of the structure - to ensure the conference-attendee experience truly resembled that of a stay at a National Park Lodge. Approximately 25 years after originally opening, with this now more a destination hotel instead of an environmental-conference facility, a hospitality group was hired. A requirement of their pricing / work-flow was that ALL furnishings and fixtures be replaced with a single package of modern goods. Therefore, most of the interior design features described below exist only in photos and are no longer extant.
To give an idea of what a synthesis of exterior and interior architecture along with furnishings and overall client goals, a short-list of interior flourishes are given here:
Quotations from history emphasizing the role trees play in the lives of all humanity, running atop the wainscot in the lobby, restaurant and lounge.
Custom-designed furniture for all guest rooms with blankets serving as coverlets on guest room beds (a much-requested piece of merchandise in the gift shop!)
A mix of Stickley furnishings paired with contemporary seating in the lobby space, all emphasizing natural materials of wood and leather.
Custom-made pressed paper shades featuring an imprint of a burr-oak leaf, used in guest room lamps, corridor sconces, and the custom-designed chandeliers at the restaurant / lounge.
Kotati lamps in the lounge, serving as a playful flourish.
8-hour conference chairs finished in Stickley fabrics, with 800 stackable chairs made of pressed plywood with a custom-design detail at chair backs.
Truly a one-of-a-kind synthesis that can not be seen as a whole, but the strength of the architecture and overall design of the facility more than makes up for the interior fixtures and furnishings that now exist only as a piece of history.
